Leather Belt

As with anything made of leather, there is much diversity in the leather belts that are available.  There are great fashionable belts made from leather available as well as great belts for daily wear.  There are belts available for both men and women and even children and teens.  It is common for belts made of leather to be paired with metal of some sort.  It is extremely popular for teens to have a leather studded belt and among other groups it is popular to pair your leather made belt with a huge shinny belt buckle. There are also many types of leather that are used for belts and each has a different look and texture.  Since leather is animal skin, it consists of fibers that are sensitive to heat, weather and even wear and tear.   If the fibers become dry then they tend to break or crack that would be visible on the belt.

To prevent wear and tear leather belts need to be treated with a coating to which will also allow it to adapt to weather conditions and heat.  There are some great leather treatments that can make belts look new and healthy even after years of use.  Most of these treatments are petroleum based and only last for about 5-6 months.  Therefore, to keep your belt in the best shape possible it should be treated every 5 or 6 months.   Treating your leather will prevent it from cracking and breaking too quickly.  Leather is extremely durable if taken care of properly so you belt should last for years.  Leather belts often times come treated so you shouldn’t have to worry about treating them within the first few months.  However if your belt starts to show signs of aging you can begin to treat it early.

With the popularity of leather belts it comes as no shock that there are many belts made to look like leather.  These belts are usually made out of leather like materials and look practically identical to the most popular belts in style.  Faux leather is less expensive than actual  leather so often times if you are purchasing a belt made of leather that is pretty cheap it is an imitation.  However imitation belts aren’t always a bad choice.  They are far cheaper then belts made of real leather and they also don’t need to be treated.  These belts may wear after a year or so of wear, however for the low price they are often times worth their small period of use.
